PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a plasma display panel requiring low power consumption and having good display quality. SOLUTION: A protruding dielectric layer 16a is partially formed on the surface of a first glass substrate 11a, and discharge maintaining electrodes 12a, 15a are formed on the surfaces of the protruding dielectric layer 16a and the first glass substrate 11a. The end section of the discharge maintaining electrode 12a on the discharge maintaining electrode 15a side is formed on the surface of one end section of the protruding dielectric layer 16a, and the end section of the discharge maintaining electrode 15a on the discharge maintaining electrode 12a side is formed on the surface of the other end section of the protruding dielectric layer 16b. The end sections of the discharge maintaining electrodes 12a, 15a are protruded, and the discharge maintaining electrodes 12a, 15a are covered with a dielectric layer 13a having a flat surface. The thickness of the portion of the dielectric layer 13a corresponding to the protruded portions of the discharge maintaining electrodes 12a, 15a is made smaller than that of the other portion of the dielectric layer 13a. Luminous efficiency can be improved while the voltage for maintaining an electric discharge is kept low. |
