PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image reader where accuracy of read images on both sides of a sheet is enhanced, independently of the thickness of the sheet. SOLUTION: This image reader has 1st bents 7a, 8a where guide plates 7, 8 are bent downward nearly in a chevron shape and 2nd bents 7b, 8b that are placed in the vicinity of the downstream of the 1st bents and bent upward nearly in a chevron shape, and close contact image sensors 3, 4 are placed so that the sensors are nearly focused almost at the insides of the bents, that is, nearly at each apex of the projected bents 7a, 8b.
