PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent the deterioration of even highly triboelectric developer and deterioration and damage of abutted members and to obtain stable, satisfactory developer- scrape-performance while maintaining developer carrying capability by abutting the developer carrier and the developer carrying roller and making an amount of the intrusion of the developer carrier into the developer carrying roller greater than the height of the projection of the developer carrying roller. SOLUTION: In a developing device provided with a developer carrier 5 for holding and carrying at least developer and a developer carrying roller 6 having a rotary shaft and a foamed elastic-body around the rotary shaft and forming recesses and projections on the peripheral face of the foamed elastic-body, the developer carrier 5 and the developer carrying roller 6 abut against each other, and an amount of the intrusion of the developer carrier 5 into the developer carrying roller 6 is made greater than the height (h) of the projection of the developer carrying roller 6. Also, in the case where the inside diameter of the developer carrying roller 6 is defined as (r), the diameter of the developer carrier 5 as P, and a distance between the center of the rotary shaft of the developer carrying roller 6 and the center of the rotary shaft of the developer carrier 5 as C, (r)>2C-P is established. |
