An electromagnetic balancing device balances shaft, adaptor and connecting tool. The method involves providing an engine which has a shaft, connecting an adaptor to the shaft, and connecting an electromagnetic balancing device to the adaptor. A tool is connected to the adaptor. The engine is operated to turn the shaft, the adaptor, the tool, and the balancing device. The balancing device is operated to balance the shaft, the adaptor and the tool. The engine is then stopped, the torque-transmitting device is connected to the tool, and the engine is operated to turn the shaft, the adaptor, the tool and the torque-transmitting device. The torque-transmitting device is then balanced.
