[Also in Division B3] A self-lubricating bearing 1 consists of an oilimpregnated body of sintered metal powder having a bore for a shaft, the bore, Fig. 1, or the shaft, Fig. 3 (not shown), being deformed from an initial cylindrical shape so that the clearance between the bore and the shaft varies cyclically, e.g. sinusoidally, around the shaft. To make the bearing of Fig. 1 the bore, which was originally cylindrical, is deformed by forcing therethrough a tool of appropriate cross-section. |
