<p>A method for dynamically allocating signal processing resources in a wireless multichannel broadband base station (BSS 18) for a cellular communications network including determining a number of available channel processor (CP 62) resources which are unused in a BSS (18). In response to notification of a subscriber call to be processed by a cell (16) of the BSS (18), a determination is made as to whether the number of available CP resources (62) is at least one. If so, then the call is assigned to any available CP resource (62) in the BSS (18). Each of the CPs (62) in the BSS (18) processes any of a plurality of traffic channels contained on any frequency channel assigned to the BSS (18). In addition, an apparatus (38) for practicing the method is disclosed.</p> |
