The map display device (20) incorporates an actual geographical position detection system, e.g. a global positioning system, controlling access to a number of maps held in a memory, with the detected geographical position indicated by a marking (22a) on the displayed map card. The display device allows 2 overlapping map cards to be displayed without a visible transition between them.
