The injection nozzles (16) are cooled by a fuel volume flow, which is regulated dependent upon the operational parameter of an engine, passes through the nozzles and is returned to a return line. The continuous fuel flow is supplied by a fuel feed unit, and the injection system has a fuel return (33) from injection nozzles to a fuel accumulator. The cooling fuel flow is calculated dependent upon engine RPM and/or the loading pressure generated by an exhaust turbo charger.
