PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To achieve no burn-in, relatively low threshold voltage and significantly short response time by blending two component compounds in specific amounts with a liquid crystal medium. SOLUTION: A liquid crystal medium for electrooptical liquid crystal displays comprises 5-30 wt.% of at least one compound selected from the compound group of formula I (wherein R1 is a 1-10C alkyl group, alkoxy group, oxalkyl group or a 2-10C alkenyl group; X is transcyclohexylene or phenylene; A is CO-O or a single bond; Y1 is H or F) as the first component, 5-50 wt.% of at least one compound selected from the compound group of formula II (R2 is a 1-10C alkyl group, alkoxy group, oxalkyl group or a 2-10C alkenyl group) as the second component and the balance other liquid crystal compounds having positive dielectric anisotropy. This liquid crystal medium has a reorientation layer for reorienting the liquid crystals in which the electric field makes an effective component parallel to the liquid crystal layer. |
