PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent ice clogging in an icemaking unit caused by a drop of an ambient temperature and occurrence of an abnormal sound by providing a mechanism for reducing ice pieces to be fed to the unit. SOLUTION: In order to increase a gap between a bore of an icemaking cylinder 11 and a spiral rotary cutter 10a in the auger type icemaker, a diameter D of the cutter 10a is reduced by 0.1 to 0.2 mm as compared with a conventional spiral rotary cutter. Thus, since a thickness of an ice film not skived at an inner surface of the cylinder 11 is increased by 0.1 to 0.2 mm, a producing capability of the film to be skived by the cutter 10a is lowered that much. Accordingly, even if the ambient temperature and potable water temperature are lowered, since an amount of a flaky ice fed to an ice pushing head 13 does not exceed a capability of compressing to an ice post, no ice clogging occurs. Further, the ice does not separate at a boundary between a compressor and a rotary unit, and no abnormal sound is generated caused by a friction between the ice clogged in the rotary unit and the ice of a fixed unit.
