PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain an aromatic polycarbodiimide having high solubility in organic solvents, and having good processability, excellent heat resistance, excellent moisture resistance, or the like, by polymerizing a specific diisocyanate monomer. SOLUTION: This polycarbodiimide having structural units of formula II [(n) is 2-300] is obtained by polymerizing a diisocyanate monomer of formula I [(m) is 0 or 1; A is a <=4C divalent organic group; Ph is phenyl] [for example, 2-phenyl-1,4-bis(4-isocyanatophenoxy)benzene] in the presence of a phosphorous catalyst (for example, 1-phenyl-2-phospholene-1-oxide) preferably at 40-150 deg.C or copolymerizing the diisocyanate monomer of formula I with one or more other organic diisocyanates (for example, 4,4'-diphenylmethanediisocyanate).
