PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To efficiently and easily produce a clad material having the extremely low plastic deformation quantity of a material to be joined and not having the defect of intermetallic penetration by activating and treating joining faces in vacuum bath, overlapping the joining faces, coiling them on a rotatable cylinder with imparting tension and joining them. SOLUTION: A backup member is preferably coiled to the outside of a band like metal sheet to be cladded which is coiled on the faces of bridle rolls 4a, 4b and a free rotating roll 8. An activation treatment is done by ion etching and adhering an activation metal. A material to be treated is coiled out of a metal foil coiling out devices 5a, 5b, is activated with ion sources 2a, 2b and is coiled together with the backup member from backup member coiling out devices on the faces of the bridle rolls 4a, 4b and the free rotating roll 8. A product is coiled to a take up device 7 and is held at a normal temp. to <=350 deg.C by a heating device.
