PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a vitreous carbon molding which has little defects although is has a large thickness and to provide its producing method. SOLUTION: This vitreous carbon molding is produced by calcining and carbonizing a phenol resin molding, has <=10 defects and >=5 mm thickness. In the production of the vitreous carbon molding, a soln. prepared by dissolving a novolac resin and hexamethylene tetramine in a solvent is concentrated, and the concentrated resin soln. is cast to form a phenol resin molding. Then the phenol resin molding is calcined and carbonized is vacuum or in an inert gas atmosphere at >=800 deg.C. |
