A power converter comprising a main circuit for converting d.c. to a.c. or vice versa, a controller for controlling the main circuit, and a plurality of means for detecting current or voltage in the main circuit, the detected current or voltage being transmitted as control information to the controller, the power converter characterized in that the detecting means include A/D converting means for converting a detected analog signal to a digital signal and means for outputting the converted digital signal serially in time division, the detecting means are serially connected to the controller by a serial transmission cable in such a way that the controller is at the end. A detected signal is digitized by a detecting section and sent from the detecting section to the controller. Therefore, it is unnecessary for the controller to have an A/D converter circuit (analog circuit) for A/D-converting a detected signal, thereby enhancing the noise resistance. By thus enhancing the noise resistance of the controller, the controller can be disposed near the main circuit, which is a noise source, and the size of the entire power converter is reduced. |
