PURPOSE: A device for controlling a back light in a mobile terminal is provided to decrease a power consumption by controlling on/off of a light emitting diode through a control of a number of reference clock generated on the basis of data corresponding to set up brightness. CONSTITUTION: When a message for setting up an extent of brightness of a backlight is selected through a key pad, a microprocessor(38) reads data corresponding to the message from a reference data storing part(33). Next, the microprocessor(38) selects and addresses a counter(36a) by transmitting a control signal, and applies the data to the counter(36a) through data buses(0 to 3). After this, the counter(36a) outputs a clock signal pertinent to the data through a clock output terminal by counting a reference clock on the basis of the data. Transistors(TR1 to TR6) of which base terminals are connected to the clock terminal are turned on when the clock signal is high, and are turned off when the clock signal is low. Light emitting diodes(D1 to D6) are turned on or turned off according to on/off of the transistors(TR1 to TR6).
