The wavelength division multiplexing erbium doped fiber amplifier (WDM-EDFA) measures the power of the received light and obtains the difference between the measured power value and a predetermined target power value. The power control unit generates a dummy light which has an output power as large as the obtained difference .The received light is then coupled to the dummy light, the coupled light is then amplified. An INDEPENDENT claim is also included for the method.
