PURPOSE: A recording method of an optical disk is provided to change the recording period of pulse streams in actual data recording by detecting the approximate range of laser power proper for data recording on an optical disk. CONSTITUTION: A sample pulse stream is divided into specific steps and recorded periodically. The sample pulse stream is reproduced to search a single step in a cycle, having the similar high/low portions. A range having the step and several peripheral steps is set as an approximate range of laser power for data recording on an optical disk. The capacity of laser power is changed more finely within the approximate range of laser power, and a sample pulse stream is recorded. The sample pulse stream is reproduced, and a single step having the similar high/low portions is searched. The step is set as a reference recording zone. Reference power is obtained through the similar former processes. The reference zone and power capacity of the recording pulse stream is adjusted on the basis of the reference recording zone and the reference power. Finally, data are played back from the optical disk.
