In the present invention there is disclosed a pharmaceutical preparation that is useful for preparing dosing forms for oral administration with prolonged release of gepirone and containing (a) 0.5 to 12.0 percent by weight gepirone hydrochloride. (b) 70 to 85 percent by weight pharmaceutically acceptable cellulose polymer matrix and (c) a suitable amount of one or several pharmaceutically acceptable excipients, based on the dosing unit total weight, whereby the gepirone release speed from the dosing form is such that for obtaining 90 to 95 percent of gepirone absorption, time interval of 18 to 24 hours is needed.
