An article of furniture is fitted with a detachable panel comprising a frame 1 over which a fabric lining 2 is tensioned and retained by U-shaped clamps 6. The panel may be decorative for fitment to an otherwise complete office desk or may form a seat panel. As shown the lining 2 covers a padding layer 3 of foam plastics or flock. The frame 1 comprises a layer of cardboard reinforced by a more rigid frame 4 having attachment flanges 5 and secured by the clamps 6. The flanges 5 may clip over side walls of the article or may be clamped between side walls and legs. In a modification (Fig. 3), U-shaped clamps (23) are formed with integral lugs (19) which are passed through apertures in the furniture wall and bent over. In another modification (Fig. 5) the U-shaped clamp (25) extends along the whole length of a side of the panel and has an integral attachment flange (26).</p> |
