PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To impart surface properties typified by water repellency to the surface of a molding by subjecting the surface of a molding contg., in the structural unit of the main chain, a silicon atom of which at least one substituent is arom. to laser irradiation to thereby specify the contact angle of the surface with water. SOLUTION: The surface of a polysilmethylene molding contg., in the structural unit of the main chain, a silicon atom of which at least one substituent is arom. is irradiated with an Nd:YAG laser having a wavelength of 1,064 nm or 532 nm. The mol.wt. of the polysilmethylene is not limited specifically, if it gives a solid high-molecular compd. The m.p. of the polysilmethylene is usually set at 100 deg.C or higher, pref. 200 deg.C or higher. The laser irradiation of the polysilmethylene molding can form a surface layer having a contact angle with water of 100 deg. or higher. Thus, selective adsorption control utilizing water repellency is made possible, and a stain-proofing treatment can be done irrespecive of size and shape.
