PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a file storage control unit which can relieve the load on a storage medium irrelevantly to the kind of an application by allowing various applications which generate and store files on a storage medium to compress the generated files when storing them. SOLUTION: When a text file 20 generated by an application 30 is stored, the generated text file 20 is compressed and stored in a user-specified directory 50 while a temporary directory 40 is used. While the temporary directory 40 is used, the stored text file 20' is depressed and read in by the application 30. Consequently, the amount of use of disks can be saved when the file is compressed and stored by using the temporary directory 40 than when the text file 20 generated by the application 30 is stored in the user specified director 50.
