PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To start an internal combustion engine without using an excessively large electric motor. SOLUTION: This device adapts a brushless DC electric motor as a starter, which is equipped with a magnetic rotor 102 mounted to the crank shaft of an engine, and with a stator 103 wherein each armature coil W1 through W24 is wound around each tooth part P1 through P24 of an armature core 104 so as to allow the armature coils to be wired in there phase. A position where the center position of each magnetic pole of the magnetic rotor 102 coincides with the center position of the magnetic part of each tooth part of the stator 103, is made to be a reference excitation change-over position, and a control lead angle with respect to the reference excitation change-over position at a position where the excitation phase of armature coils W1 through W24 is changed over, is changed in response to the instant revolution when an internal combustion engine is started, so as to increase the revolution for generating the maximum torque of the electric motor as the instant revolution at the time of engine starting is increased. |
