PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To drive a refrigerating device selectively by a motor or an internal combustion engine, by connecting an input axis of a steam compressor and an output axis of a motor which are the constituents of a refrigerating machine through a clutch, and connecting the other side of the steam compressor to the internal combustion engine through the clutch. SOLUTION: In a refrigerator which is set on a loading portion of an automobile truck, refrigerant is transferred to a condenser 1 through an evaporator 5, a steam compressor 8, and an oil separator 7 so as to be transformed to supercooling liquid. Then, the supercooling liquid is stored in a receiver 2. In such a refrigerating cycle, the steam compressor 8 is usually driven by an internal combustion engine 9 through a clutch 10a. However, the driving can be switched to a motor-operated form by relieving the clutch 10a to separate the steam compressor 8 from the internal combustion engine 9, and connecting the steam compressor 8 with the motor 6 through a clutch 10b. In the case where a setting is made so that the motor 6 mainly operates for control, the operating time of the internal combustion engine 9 can be remarkably reduced, thereby suppressing air pollution by an exhaust gas.
