PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a plated steel sheet and a coated steel sheet excellent in corrosion resistance and a method for producing the same. SOLUTION: The plated steel sheet excellent in corrosion resistance has a zinc alloy plated layer on the surface of the steel sheet, which layer is comprised of, by weight, 1-10% Mg, 2-19% Al, 0.01-2% Si and the balance Zn with inevitable impurities, wherein Mg and Al satisfy the following relation: Mg(%)+Al(%)<=20%. It is preferable that a Ni plated layer is provided as an under layer. The coated steel sheet excellent in corrosion resistance has, as an intermediate layer, a chromate coated film layer on the plated layer and, as an upper layer, an organic coated film layer having the thickness of 1-100μm or has, as a upper layer, a chromate coated film with an amount of 10-300 mg/m2 expressed in terms of chromium metal, on the plated layer. The chromate coated film is formed by coating a resin chromate bath on the plated layer and drying the coated film.
