PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To accelerate a device receiving both satellite broadcasting and ground wave broadcasting in performing signal discrimination including decision of no received broadcasting. SOLUTION: This receiver detects the existence of a received signal of a BS tuner part 2 at a stage before a decoder part also detects the existence of a sound carrier included in a standard television signal and discriminates a broadcasting system from both the detected results. The receiver is also provided with a U/V tuner part 17, which receives television broadcasting of a standard system of ground wave broadcasting and a discriminating means 20 for U/V, which detects the existence of a received signal of the part 17 and selects the decided results about satellite broadcasting and ground wave broadcasting according to a channel section state. Thus, the receiver quickly discriminates a broadcasting system including the decision of no received broadcasting, about the satellite broadcasting and the ground wave broadcasting.
