METHOD AND SYSTEM FOR FINDING OPTIMUM VEHICLE TRAVEL INTERVAL DISTANCE

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To find the minimum interval distance between the preceding vehicle and a host vehicle to prevent collision when the preceding vehicle decelerates when the host vehicle is in a cruise mode. SOLUTION: The distance between the preceding vehicle and a host vehicle is found by sensors such as a steering angle sensor 48, a vehicle rotational speed sensor and electronic pedal sensor. A control logic circuit in a collision alarm system communicates with the sensors and adjusts the vehicle distance by relatively accelerating or decelerating the host vehicle against the preceding vehicle so as to maintain the minimum interval distance based on maximum deceleration, a preceding vehicle speed and a host vehicle speed.
