PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a method for calculating the sulfuric content of a lubrication oil with a high calculation accuracy, less restriction of metal types, and a wide application range. SOLUTION: In the calculation method, a percentage by mass of the metal type of a lubrication oil sample and each metal type is obtained, it is specified which of a compound metal oxide, sulfate, and individual metal oxide for composing sulfuric ash the conversion form of the metal type corresponds to, the percentage by mass of a specified compound metal oxide, sulfate, and individual metal oxide is obtained based on a chemical equal-quantity relationship, and the total is set to sulfuric ash content.
