PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve the utilization efficiency of light with a low power consumption and to attain a high visibility irrespective of turning on/off of illumination by making a light guiding plate transparent and locating it between a polarizing plate and a reflection plate. SOLUTION: The liquid crystal device is provided with an upper polarizing plate 1, a liquid crystal panel 5, a lower polarizing plate 6, an illuminating part 4 comprising a planar light guiding plate 2 and a light source 3, and a reflection plate 7 from the top to bottom successively, the light guiding plate 2 is located between the lower polarizing plate 6 and the reflection plate 7. A transparent resin such as acrylic resin or polycarbonate resin, an inorganic transparent material such as glass or a combined material of them is used as a transparent material forming the light guiding plate 2. Furthermore, the light guiding plate 2 is formed by injection molding, with a thermosetting resin, with photosetting resin, by etching, with transparent resin or by joining a film to, or by providing a resin layer on, a flat glass plate. Thereby, it efficiently illuminates the liquid crystal panel and functions to transmit external light and light reflected with the reflection plate 7 with hardly any dispersion. |
