[Also in Division C3] A cylindrical steel rotor 10 of an hydraulic pump is heated, together with both a bearing- metal plate 13 supported in a refractory tray 16 and bearing-metal sleeves 12 in bores 11 in the rotor and containing sand cores 15, so that the bearing-metal 12, 13, e.g. phosphor-bronze containing 5-7% tin, melts and bonds to the rotor. The rotor 10 is then cooled, the tray 16 and cores 15 removed and the exposed surfaces of the bearing-metal are machined. Three holes in the plate 13 locate on pegs 14 and the plate contacts the rotor (and a weight 17 is applied to the sleeve ends and an edge 18 of the rotor) before the heating. The sand cores (see Division C3) are poured in as a slurry to be heat-cured before the melting process. |
