<p>A blood pump for use in CPB and other heart surgeries includes a reusable motor stator element (12) which is enclosed in a disposable, sterile housing (14). The reusable, non-sterilized motor stator element is completely encased by the pump housing so that the motor stator can be reused without sterilization. The sterile housing may be evacuated through a port (74) to reduce the risk of emboli which may occur due to the failure of a seal.</p> |
