PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain titanyloxyphthalocyanine which has high charge potential and sensitivity and can exhibits a stable performance without undergoing the change in characteristics even when repeatedly used by treating amorphous titanyloxyphthalocyanine in a solvent contg. water and m-terphenyl, SOLUTION: Amorphous titanyloxyphthalocyanine (TiOPc) obtd. by the condensation of phothalodinitrile and titanium tetrachloride is treated at 86-100 deg.C for 5 sec to 120 hr in a solvent which contains water in an amt. of 2-200 pts.wt. based on 1 pt.wt. TiOPc, m-terphenyl in an amt. of 10-5,000 pts.wt., pref. 50-500 pts.wt., based on 100 pts.wt. TiOPc, and an org, solvent in an amt, of 100 pts.wt. or lower based on 100 pts.wt. m-terphenyl, thus giving titanyloxyphthalocyanine which has a crystalline form having absorption peaks of an X ray of Cuα1.541Åat Bragg angles (2θ±i0.2 deg.) of 13.5 deg., 14.2 deg., 18.0 deg., 24.0 deg., and 27.2 deg. and a peak aggregate at 8.9 deg.-9.7 deg..
