PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To modify the iron surface by a covenient method to impart corrosion resistance to the surface. SOLUTION: A principal consisting essentially of silicon oxide and calcium oxide is mixed in the composite polymer emulsion composed mainly of a carboxyl-modified styrene-butadiene copolymer, an acrylic ester-styrene copolymer and an emulsifier to form a coating material, and the coating material is deposited on the iron surface and left to stand. Thereby, black rust is generated to impart corrosion resistance to the iron surface.
