PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To make a quick rise to the activation temperature in the case the temp. of a catalyzer device is low when the assist control of an engine by motor drive is to be made with an assist amount decided in accordance with the vehicle operating condition at accelerating or when the idle stopping control of engine is to be made. SOLUTION: As the power source, an engine and a motor to assist it are mounted on a hybrid vehicle, which includes a means to sense the catalyst temp. and correct the assist amount in accordance with the vehicle operating condition in accelerating according to the sensed catalyst temperature or a means to prohibit engine stall at the time of idling when the sensed catalyst temperature is below the specified level.
