PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a prophylactic or a therapeutic agent for cachexia, useful for the inhibition or amelioration of cachexia observed in the condition of malignant tumor, tuberculosis, diabetes, blood diseases, endocrinologic disease, infectious disease, acquired immune deficiency syndrome or the like by including a specific compound. SOLUTION: The objective prophylactic or therapeutic agent is prepared by including a compound of formula I or II [R is H, a halogen or a lower alkyl; R1 is a lower alkyl, amino or the like; R2 is a (substituted) phenyl; R3 is H, a halogen or a (substituted) lower alkyl; R4 is H, a (substituted) lower alkyl, a (substituted) lower aryl or the like], [e.g. 2-(4-chlorophenyl)-4-methyl-1-(4- sulfamoylphenyl)phrrole] or its salt. The compound of formula I or II is administered in combination with an anticancer agent at the same time, separately of sequentially.
