A release side engagement element slips by the 2-3 shift command, a turbine rotation speed becomes larger than the slip judgment rotation speed, and the release side control hydraulic pressure is reduced. This operation is repeated, a shift start time control is changed to a torque phase control, the engagement side hydraulic pressure is increased to hold the slip, and the release side hydraulic pressure is reduced. This operation is repeated to be drawn into the 2nd range and be an inertia phase control. Secondarily, the engagement side torque is calculated by a shift model to find the engagement side hydraulic pressure, this operation is repeated so as to smoothly reduce the target turbine rotation speed, the turbine rotation speed follows therewith to become synchronous with the 3rd range, and it is changed into the shift completion time control. This operation is repeated till the engagement side hydraulic pressure becomes the maximum to complete the 2-3 shift.
