PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent the end of a separator projected from the upper end of an electrode group from entering a gap between a battery case and a reinforcement plate for avoiding the appearance of an improper hole at the time of connecting the reinforcement plate, and further prevent an electrolyte level from rising due to capillary phenomenon taking place between the end of the separator projected to the upper end of the electrode group and the battery case. SOLUTION: A recessed part is formed in a die 8 conforming to the shape of an electrode group upper part, and a heating part is installed therein. In this state, the upper end of a separator is kept near or kept in contact with the internal space of the recessed part, thereby causing only the forward end of the separator to thermally contract effectively and shaping the form of the forward end after contraction with a die shape. |
