PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To detect leakage of refrigerant quickly and accurately in a chiller where heat is carried on refrigerant by acting high and low pressures in a tank storing liquid refrigerant thereby pushing out the refrigerant from the tank with these pressures and collecting refrigerant into the tank. SOLUTION: The chiller includes a secondary circuit 20 comprising a pair of tanks T1, T2 storing liquid refrigerant, an indoor heat exchanger HEX 1, and a main heat exchanger HEX 2, and a drive circuit 50 comprising a heating heat exchanger HEX 3 for pressurizing the tanks T1, T2 by heating the refrigerant of the secondary circuit 20, and a cooling heating heat exchanger HEX 4 for reducing pressure in the tanks T1, T2 by cooling the refrigerant of the secondary circuit 20. High and low pressures are acted in the tanks T1, T2 through heating/evaporation of liquid refrigerant in the heating heat exchanger HEX 3 and cooling/condensation of gas refrigerant in the cooling heat exchanger HEX 4 thus circulating refrigerant through the secondary circuit 20. A decision is made that refrigerant is leaked from the secondary circuit 20 if one tank T1 is emptied before elapsing a predetermined time after starting push out operation of liquid refrigerant from the tank T1.
