PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To effectively improve a dynamic range by continuously or discontinuously changing storable electric charge time-sequentially within an image pickup period and also within a specified charge saturation of a sensor means. SOLUTION: An electric charge storable within one image pickup period is made to change in two steps. A shutter voltage is applied outside a storage time T0 and the electric charge that is subjected to photoelectric conversion in a photodiode is swept out to a substrate. A substrate voltage which is lower than the shutter voltage and is higher than a blooming control voltage is applied at storage time t(0), and thus, Qsat(1) is defined. When the storage time becomes t(1), the substrate voltage becomes low, and thus, Qsat(2) whose storage electric charge is larger than that of the Qsat(1) is defined. Furthermore, 2×t(1)=t(2). When photoelectric conversion efficiency changes due to quantity of light in the case of making storable electric charge change in multi-steps, the change is small and an image without the sense of incongruity to eyes can be offered.
