PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method capable of carrying out an asbestos screening test via color reaction of a contained iron component, without using a dangerous chemical such as hydrogen fluoride, concentrated sulfuric acid or the like. SOLUTION: A testing method for determining the presence of an asbestos component in a sample via color reaction of an iron component comprises (1) a sample preparing process for pulverizing one portion of a sample block collected from a specimen to prepare a sample 14, (2) a pretreatment process for washing an acid component with purified water after adding an organic acid 16 to the sample 14 to be pulverized and mixed, (3) a determining solution preparing process for adding a non-oxidative aqueous inorganic acid solution and a coloring reagent 26 of a chelating agent to the sample 14 after the pretreatment process to elute an asbestos iron component, (4) a determining process for determning the presence of coloring as it is when a PH of the determining solution prepared hereinbefore is within a color-stable region, and by adding a PH adjusting agent 28 to adjust the PH to the color-stable region when the PH is the color-stable region or below.
