PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To make convenient the method and apparatus for measuring variation in the shape of pavement continuously. SOLUTION: Elements 31-39 for detecting shape information, e.g. the distance to pavement 10, are arranged in a plurality of rows at a detecting section 30. The detecting elements 31-39 are arranged densely in the central part of the detecting section 30 and the depth of rut is operated at a processing section 40 based on the shape information. When the depth of rut in road is measured continuously by running a measuring vehicle 20 mounting such a convenient apparatus for measuring the rut depth continuously, the measuring vehicle 20 is run with reference to an outer rut 12 continuously. According to the arrangement, the measuring vehicle and the measuring apparatus can be reduced in size and simplified.
