An implanted hearing assistance system (30) includes a sensor transducer (32), and an electronics unit (37). The sensor transducer (32), such as a piezoelectric transducer, is operatively coupled to an auditory element of the middle ear (20), (e.g., malleus), and electrically connected to the electronics unit (37). The transducer (32), the electronics unit (37) are arranged together to minimize the driving impedance, and lead capacitance therebetween; thereby minimizing susceptibility to electromagnetic interference, and minimizing high audio frequency signal attenuation.
