The invention relates to a method for the continuous production of an aqueous ethylene oxide solution by absorbing ethylene oxide from a gaseous mixture containing 1.5 to 4 mole percent, preferably 2.5 to 3 mole percent of ethylene oxide in the wash water in an absorber. The mixture drawn directly from the absorber has a water/ethylene oxide weight ratio of 5 to 20, preferably of 10 to 15. The absorbed mixture is especially useful for directly feeding it to a secondary reactor for the production of glycol.
