Metal product wear resistance increase, by sodium bicarbonate solution treatment, heat treatment and ammonium dichromate solution treatment, is new. The wear resistance of metal (especially steel) products is increased by (a) treating in a preferably aqueous sodium bicarbonate solution; (b) heating to 90-140 (e.g. 110) deg C; (c) introducing into an oxygen-free argon/nitrogen atmosphere; (d) treating with an ammonium dichromate solution; and (e) removing treatment residues.
