Telecommunications apparatus (1) comprising a controller (11) that is operable to modify the operation of said apparatus (1) upon the receipt of an incoming call from a calling party that includes an embedded signal indicating that information identifying said calling party is not available. The controller (11) preferably controls the apparatus upon receipt of just such a call to respond to the incoming call.
