1,112,633. Fuel cells. PULLMAN Inc. 26 Sept., 1966, No. 42935/66. Heading H1B. A fuel cell comprises a separable electrically conductive middle section B (Fig. 1) positioned between and fastened to upper and lower sections (A and C), section B supporting and being electrically connected to one set of electrodes 86 and section A supporting another set of electrodes 84. Electrodes 86 may be gas diffusion electrodes to which oxygen, air or chlorine may be supplied by inlets 94, electrodes 84 may be anodes over which flows barium amalgam supplied through an inlet 88 and a distributer plate 85, and the electrolyte, which may be an aqueous solution of sodium hydroxide and barium chloride or a solution of barium hydroxide, is supplied through an inlet 89 and withdrawn through an outlet 98. Sections A and C may be composed of or coated with electrically non- conductive material and are insulated from section B. Spent amalgam is removed by an outlet 97. Electric power generated is removed by an anode terminal 101 and a cathode terminal 99. |
