PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent the generation of bubbles by returning a coating liquid smoothly to a coating liquid tank while a return pipe line which returns the coating liquid from a chamber for supplying the coating liquid to a plate cylinder for applying the coating liquid on a sheet to the coating liquid tank is being prevented from being filled with the coating liquid. SOLUTION: An opening part 43 over a prescribed height range H1 to HN is formed at the tip of a return pipe line 42 which returns coating liquid from a chamber 30 to a coating liquid tank 60, and the return pile line 42 is inserted diagonally into the liquid surface H in the tank 60 to turn the opening part 43 slightly upward. By actuating a coating liquid supply means 72 corresponding to the detected value of a liquid level sensor 70, the liquid surface H in the tank 60 is kept within the height range H1 to HN of the opening part 43.
