An oral composition comprises: (a) /- 1 linear polyphosphate of average chain length of /- 4; (b) 0.15-2.28% sodium monofluorophosphate; (c) buffering agent; (d) 6-70% of an abrasive polishing material containing 23% Ca, and (e) 50-99% of /- 1 aqueous carrier. The oral composition has a total water content of 5-20%. The polyphosphate(s) has an average chain length of /- 6 and is present in an amount of 0.5-20%. The polyphosphate is selected from linear glassy polyphosphates of formula XO(XPO3)nX (X = Na or K and n = 6-21). The buffering agent is used in an amount of 0.1-30%. The abrasive polishing material is silica, alumina, phosphates, orthophosphates, and/or polymetaphosphates. The composition comprises 0.5-40% of an alkali metal bicarbonate and 0.01-10% of a peroxide source, especially calcium peroxide. The total amount of water is 7-14%. The composition does not contain a synthetic linear polymeric polycarboxylate. |
