PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To form an image certainly by preventing ink ejection failure by extracting a correction value from a pulse signal according to the carriage movement amount and generating a recording timing signal from the extracted correction value and the pulse signal. SOLUTION: Scan is executed by a carriage before recording so that judgment is made on whether or not recording can be executed in the ink maximum ejection frequency by the moving rate of the carriage. In the case the recording cannot be executed, a correction value is calculated from the minimum value of a cycle time TSn of a pulse signal 21 of a linear scale 20 to be the source for generating a recording timing signal 22. Then, by successively executing calculations with respect to the cycle time TSn (TS1-TSn) values of the pulse signal 21 generated by the scan by the carriage in the recording operation, a continuous recording timing signal 22 is generated according to a recordable recording timing cycle time THn.
