PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a new compound having excellent resistance against β- lactamase and kidney dehydropeptidase, and at the same time, having strong antimicrobial activity by introducing an azathiabicyclo ring into a side chain at the 2-position of a methylcarbapenem compound. SOLUTION: A compound of formula I [R is a (substituted) lower alkyl; A is a (substituted) methylenic or ethylenic bond] or its salt, for example, (1R,5 S,6S)-2- [2-(N-methylimino)-1-aza-3-thiabicyclo [3.3.0]oct-7-yl]}thio-6-[(R)-1- hydroxyethyl]-1-methylcarbapen-2-em-3-carboxylic acid. The compound of formula I is obtained by reacting a compound of formula II (Ra is an acyl; R1 is a carboxy protecting group) with a compound of formula III in a solvent such as tetrahydrofuran, preferably, in an inert gas stream in the presence of isopropylamine or the like and subsequently removing protecting groups from the reaction product. |
