PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a column for fixing a partition wall and a variable partition wall using the column and corresponding to barrier-free construction. SOLUTION: A hollow column K for fixing a partition wall has a screw- mounting guide hole 3 and a screw hole 4 provided in its B- and D-faces, respectively, and has arm-mounting holes 2 provided in its A- and C-faces. A height- adjustment cap L provided with a screw hole 8 and a window 9 is fitted over the upper end or both the upper and lower ends of the column K and upper and lower runners are brought into contact with the upper and lower ends of the column K, respectively, and secured to a ceiling and a floor face, respectively. A panel 16 is inserted into the B- and D-faces of the column K and the runners M, N. Hook-shaped projections 14 are provided at the vertical part of an arm 13 and inserted into the arm-mounting holes 2 in the column K to attach the arm 13 to the column K.
